On Saturday of Easter weekend my friend Irma and I went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park (yes I know it has a new name—I just choose to not acknowledge it) first thing Saturday morning to go through the Butterfly Jungle. I haven’t been in a few years, but I definitely will go back every year from here on out—we had a great time.
I got some beautiful close up photos of the butterflies even with just my average point and shoot digital camera. I’m thankful that the camera has a decent zoom because that’s what got me the best photos. In several cases I couldn’t see what was exactly in the scene but snapped several photos with the idea that I might get at least one good one. And I did! I got several that I’m very pleased with. It’s very exciting—I can’t wait to get a couple of them framed and up on the wall. Early on I got a great photo of Irma when one of the iridescent blue butterflies landed on her.
I then had one butterfly that landed on me and stayed for over 5 minutes, which is pretty unusual. My friend Irma took a photo of me and the butterfly but then moved over to another area to photograph some other butterflies. Several people pointed out to me that I had a butterfly on my chest, and then a little boy came up with his Mom and said, “You should take a photo of that butterfly”.
I told him my friend had already taken a photo of it and he said “No, you should let me take a photo of that butterfly, with your camera”. So I handed over my camera and he did take a nice photo of the butterfly and me, although from a decidedly lower angle than my other photos.
